The U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Indiana is now accepting applications for a full-time magistrate judge in the Fort Wayne division. The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment.

An applicant must have been in good standing with the Indiana bar and in active practice for at least five years; be less than 70 years old and not be related to a judge of the District Court. In addition, an applicant must: “Be competent to perform all the duties of the office; be of good moral character; be emotionally stable and mature; be committed to equal justice under the law; be in good health; be patient and courteous; and be capable of deliberation and decisiveness.”

A merit-selection panel will choose the five candidates it considers the best qualified and the court will make the appointment. The current salary is $183,172 and the term of office is eight years.

Applications, which must be submitted electronically, are due by close of business May 16. More information is available on the court’s website.
