For the second year in a row, a group of students from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of law is competing in a prestigious international business law competition in Vienna, Austria.

The IU McKinney Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team landed in Vienna Friday. The competition runs through April 18. The event brings together more than 2,000 law students from 300 law schools and more than 70 countries.

The 2014 IU McKinney competition team consists of Justin Hage, JD ’15; Devin Hillsdon-Smith, JD ’14; Minji Park, JD ’14; and Vanessa Woolsey, JD ’14; and an additional team of researchers, coaches and managers.

“After learning a lot of theory-based stuff,” said Woolsey, “this is an opportunity to gain some practical, real-world experience.”

The goal of the competition is to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration. It involves a dispute arising out of a contract of sale between two countries that are party to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

The IU McKinney team has prepared by taking part in pre-moot competitions against national and international competitors. This is the 21st year for the event.
