Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. says he'll seek re-election to that post but still is considering a run for governor in 2016.
The (Munster) Times reports McDermott announced his bid for another term as mayor Wednesday but isn't ruling out running for governor if Evan Bayh decides not to seek that office.
McDermott says it's "hard to anticipate anything because things change so quickly." The attorney says he has a "great job" as mayor and city residents support him.
Bayh was elected to two terms as governor and two terms as U.S. senator. He hasn't ruled out a return to Indiana politics.
McDermott was admitted to practice in 2000.
