Indiana University Maurer School of Law’s effort to find and recruit well-qualified undergraduates has hit a milestone, developing a partnership with an Ivy League institution.

The Bloomington law school announced Sept. 4 it had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Princeton University to establish a scholarship and mentoring program for students interested in pursuing legal education.

“Princeton is one of the most vibrant and academically distinguished universities in the country,” IU Maurer Dean Austen Parrish said. “It’s been particularly innovative in providing a career and life vision for its graduates. We are honored to be partnering with this outstanding school to provide a pathway to legal education in the Midwest.”

Each year the Princeton Law Scholars program will offer at least two graduates admitted to IU Maurer scholarships equaling about 50 percent of the law school’s annual tuition and will give the students access to a formal mentoring program.

Parrish, who was appointed dean in January 2014, started the partnership initiative to give IU Maurer a pipeline of intelligent, capable students who will be good lawyers. This is the fifth scholarship and mentoring program the law school has established this year including two with Indiana’s Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Wabash College.
