Volunteers Needed for Ask a Lawyer

Both attorneys and paralegals are needed to assist the public with legal guidance during the Fall 2014 Ask A Lawyer program on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Volunteers are being sought for one of two shifts (2 to 4 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.) at the library/community center locations throughout the city. To volunteer, contact Caren Chopp at [email protected].

Welcome New Citizens at Naturalization Ceremonies

Here’s your chance to play a role in what is one of the most important days in the lives of new American citizens. Twice a month, the IndyBar sends representatives to the Naturalization Ceremonies to give welcoming words to the new citizens. Ceremonies are held in the Federal courthouse, last about an hour and are held on Thursday mornings. For more information and to volunteer, contact Caren Chopp at [email protected].

Comment Period Open for Proposed Amendments to Federal Rules of Procedure

Public comments are now being accepted for proposed amendments to the federal rules of appellate, bankruptcy, civil and criminal procedure. The comment period will close on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015. The proposed amendments were approved for publication by the Judicial Conference Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure in May this year. Volunteers Needed for McKinney Moot Court Competition

The McKinney School of Law Moot Court Society is currently recruiting local attorneys to volunteer as Oral Argument Judges and/or Brief Graders in The Honorable Robert H. Staton Intramural Moot Court Competition, which will take place Sept. 22 through Oct. 29. The Staton Competition is the school’s annual appellate advocacy competition, which provides a valuable learning experience to students by enabling them to gain practical knowledge from real practitioners within their community.
