A Gary man who police say confessed to killing one woman, helped investigators find six other bodies and indicated there may be more is scheduled to make his first court appearance.

The Lake County Prosecutor's Office says 43-year-old Darren Vann is scheduled to have his initial appearance 9 a.m. Wednesday at the county jail in Crown Point.

Vann is charged in the strangulation death of 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy, whose body was found Friday at a motel in Hammond. He also was charged with murder in commission of a robbery and robbery causing great bodily injury.

Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said Monday that police there were still gathering evidence in the deaths of the women found in Gary and criminal charges are expected this week.
