The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is currently seeking comments on proposed revisions to two local rules dealing with filing records under seal.

Under the proposed changes, Local Rule 5-11 – Filing Under Seal – Civil Cases, and Local Criminal Rule 49.1.2 – Filing Under Seal would be amended to allow the court to summarily rule on a (d)(2)(A) motion to seal if the designating party does not file the required statement or brief. If a court denies a motion to maintain a record under seal, then the clerk will unseal the documents after 21 days under the proposed amendments.

The amended rules are available for viewing on the court’s website.

Comments must be submitted in writing or via email to the clerk’s office by June 22.
