Most new civil cases in Hamilton Circuit and Superior courts may be e-filed for the first time beginning July 29, and state courts will continue to announce online the schedules for other counties to switch to e-filing.

The Indiana Supreme Court late Thursday issued an order amending Trial Rule 86, which governs electronic filing. Among the key changes is language that filing fees must be paid at the time an action commences, and that state courts will maintain and update an e-filing implementation schedule online at courts.in.gov/efile.

Court leaders who are guiding e-filing implementation – Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David and Court of Appeals Judge Paul Mathias – said their goal is for all Indiana trial and appellate courts to adopt e-filing by the end of 2018.
