Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has tapped a national security expert to deliver the fourth annual Birch Bayh Lecture.

Nancy Fortenberry, general counsel to the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, will present “National Security, Local Impact: It’s an Outside the Beltway Thing” at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Wynne Courtroom at Inlow Hall.

A graduate of American University’s Washington College of Law, Fortenberry has more than 25 years of experience in the national security field. She has previously served as deputy legal advisor on the National Security Council staff at the White House and is former counsel to the director of national intelligence at the Open Source Center.

Currently, she is also associate general counsel in the Office of General Counsel at the Central Intelligence Agency and a National Security Crisis Law Fellow at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Fortenberry is a native of Gulfport, Mississippi, and has completed 26 marathons on four continents.

The lecture series, established in honor of Sen. Birch Bayh who served in the U.S. Senate form 1962 to 1980, focuses on issues of importance to him throughout his career in government.

A reception will be held in the atrium following Fortenberry’s speech. More information is available here.
