A central Indiana judge has indicated he will consider modified sentences for two brothers serving 55 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in 1997.

The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin reports Madison Circuit Judge Thomas Newman said Monday he believes Dennis and Raymond Johnson have been rehabilitated. They each have earned bachelor's degrees from Ball State University while incarcerated.

Prosecutor Rodney Cummings says he wants to see the details of a community re-entry program before he agrees to modified sentences.

The brothers pleaded guilty to murder in the death of Norval Peters. The brothers were teenagers when they went to Peters' home in 1996 to sell stolen cellphones and got into a gunfight.

The Johnsons are being held at the Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill.
