Subscribe NowA northwestern Indiana prosecutor has been fired after not revealing one of two purported victims made up at least part of the accusations against a molesting suspect acquitted after being held without bond for three years.
Porter County Prosecutor Brian Gensel disclosed the dismissal of his deputy, Trista Hudson, in a prepared statement to The (Munster) Times on Tuesday.
After Hudson didn't share the victim's falsehood with defense attorneys, Porter County Judge Bill Alexa ordered 39-year-old Eric Knowles released on his own recognizance pending disposition of a final molestation count involving a third child.
Hudson says "it was an inadvertent mistake not intended nor meant to be malicious." She says she has a strong ethical track record during her nearly 14 years with the prosecutor's office.
