Lake Circuit Court Judge George Paras will leave the bench early after being unseated in May’s Democratic primary by Highland lawyer Marissa McDermott.

Paras, who served as circuit court judge for six years, told the Times of Northwest Indiana he was resigning early due to personal matters he didn’t wish to disclose.

The Indiana Supreme Court Wednesday issued an order appointing Senior Judge Thomas M. Webber Sr. as judge pro tem. The order notes Paras notified the court of his resignation effective Oct. 15. Webber will be appointed judge pro tem effective Oct. 17 until further order or until a successor assume office.

McDermott is challenged in the November general election by Republican Douglas M. Grimes, a Gary attorney.
