Subscribe NowValparaiso University Law School is welcoming law students from Indiana and Illinois today through Saturday as part of a regional round of the American College of Trial Lawyers National Trial Competition.
Teams of second- and third-year law students from nine law schools will compete in three rounds of mock trials based on a fictional criminal case. The trials will be conducted at Valparaiso Law School and at the Porter County Courthouse in Valparaiso.
This is the third time the northwest Indiana law school has hosted the regional competition.
“We are honored to host the regional trial competition,” said Derrick Howard, Valparaiso Associate Dean for Experiential Learning. “We are very intentional about teaching practical skills at Valparaiso University Law School and our competition trial teams reflect that training as does our new curriculum.”
The National Trial Competition, one of the oldest mock trial contests in the country, begins with 14 regional tournaments, attracting 1,000-plus students from more than 140 law schools each year. The the top two teams from each region compete at the national championship scheduled for March in Texas.
