Honor an Unsung Hero

Do you know an Indianapolis-area lawyer who quietly goes above and beyond the call of duty? A lawyer who has exhibited the highest standards of practice and commitment for the benefit of others and has done so without accepting pay, expecting praise or receiving recognition? Let us know!

The Indianapolis Bar Association’s Professionalism Committee is taking nominations for its first Unsung Hero Award. Two individuals who are making notable contributions to the legal profession while inspiring a positive change in the community will be recognized this year. One recognition award will be presented at the Bench Bar Conference and one at the Professionalism Breakfast this fall.

Please take a moment to think about those people in your life who quietly inspire others and promote change in our community. As lawyers, we have to suffer through the bad lawyer jokes that make fun of our profession, yet we all know that lawyers do amazing things on a daily basis to better the lives of others. Help us highlight these awesome people!

To nominate someone, please send an email to [email protected] by May 5, 2017, with the following information:

1. Name of nominee

2. Their firm or organization

3. Your thoughts on the nominee’s significant and unrecognized contributions to the legal profession and community

4. Any supporting materials you’d like to include.

Want to be a Leader?

Do you want to learn what it takes to be a true leader in the Indianapolis community while also growing your referral network? If so, you should consider applying to be a member of the next Bar Leader Series class.  I am a proud graduate of the third Bar Leader Series class and 12 years later, my participation in the class is still one of the highlights of my legal career. I still keep in touch with many of my classmates and my experience as a Bar Leader graduate led me to seek leadership roles within the IndyBar. I now am serving as the first IndyBar President who is also a Bar Leader grad!

Our Bar Leader Series provides a unique opportunity for lawyers to develop their leadership and networking skills to prepare for future leadership roles in our community. We limit our class size so that participants can maximize their opportunities to grow together as a class and gain insight from speakers and facilitators in a smaller, more personal setting.

The class begins with a two-day retreat in September and continues with a monthly session led by current Indianapolis leaders in business, sports, the arts and other fields. Class members have an opportunity to interact with these prominent leaders while developing their leadership skills and forming relationships with other Indianapolis attorneys in various practice areas. The class also involves the development and execution of a community service team project by class participants. Class graduates leave the program inspired to serve and succeed in community organizations.

Applications are now being accepted. To learn more about the program and to access application materials, visit indybar.org/barleaderseries. Scholarships are available! •
