Two northwest Indiana judges graduated last week from The National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.
Lake Superior Judge Calvin Hawkins completed the college’s civil mediation course which teaches communication and dispute resolution skills. Completing nearly 20 courses at NJC since 2007, he has received certificates for judicial development and general jurisdiction trial skills. Also, he is a candidate for a master’s in judicial studies from the University of Nevada in Reno.
East Chicago City Judge Sonya Morris graduated from the college’s impaired driving case essentials course which teaches how to preside over impaired driving cases. Since 2004, she has completed seven courses at NJC and is pursuing a certificate in special court trial skills.
The National Judicial College is the nation’s oldest and largest institute for the education of judges.
