Attorneys around the state volunteered their time and physical stamina this past weekend for the annual Day of Service.

Members of the Evansville Bar Association spent Friday at The Arc of Evansville. The attorneys met at 8:30 a.m. to scrape off old paint and put on a fresh coat at the organization’s headquarters on Virginia Street.

Chair of the 2017 EBA day of service project Joseph Langerak, attorney at Jackson Kelly PLLC, explained why the bar association selected The Arc.

“The Arc of Evansville advocates for those who often cannot advocate for themselves,” he said. “In addition, it helps those with disabilities achieve their full potential. The Arc also helps those with disabilities find meaningful employment. These folks are often a forgotten or ignored cross section of the community, especially those with severe disabilities. The EBA is pleased to assist the Arc as it does this good work in our community.”

Attorneys were also busy in LaPorte County. The group gave part of Saturday to sprucing up some public spaces. From 9 to 10:30 a.m., the team of lawyers worked the Swanson Activity Center for Older Adults then moved to Koomler Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

In Marion County, attorneys worked from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Fletcher Place Community Center. Some worked outdoors cleaning the floral garden and playground while others worked indoors, sorting food for the pantry, filling food bags for needy families and organizing clothes.
