The Indiana Court of Appeals will be traveling south this week to hear oral arguments in Bartholomew County.

A panel of Judges John Baker, Edward Najam and Robert Altice will hear the case of J.R. v. State of Indiana, 49A02-1704-JV-000754, in Columbus on Thursday. The case involves an appeal of J.R.’s adjudication as a delinquent for committing two offenses.

On appeal, J.R. contends police violated his constitutional right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure when they conducted a pat-down search. He also argues his dual adjudications violate double-jeopardy protections. The state concedes the adjudications violate double jeopardy, but contends the pat-down was constitutional.

Oral arguments will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 1000 of the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave., Columbus.
