St. Joseph Circuit Court Judge John Broden announced the appointment of Cristal C. Brisco as magistrate judge for the St. Joseph Circuit Court on Thursday. Brisco will assume the position vacated by the death of Magistrate Judge Larry L. Ambler.

“I am grateful to all of the qualified candidates who applied to fill this position with our court and I am extremely pleased that Ms. Brisco has agreed to serve,” Broden said. “Cristal has developed an excellent reputation in the local legal community.”

Brisco serves on the Notre Dame Law School Association Board and on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County. She is a graduate of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Leadership Development Academy and has been a member of the Robert A. Grant Inn of Court since 2008.

Her legal contributions also include five years of service on the Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity Advisory Committee, having been appointed by retired Indiana Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and reappointed by Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush.

“It is an honor and privilege to join the circuit court. I am committed to upholding the highest standards of the profession and serving the community by providing equal justice under the law,” Brisco said.

Brisco will begin her new duties on July 16, 2018. A graduate of Valparaiso University and Notre Dame Law School, she currently serves as general counsel for St. Mary’s College and previously was chief legal officer for the City of South Bend.

Ambler, 71, died Feb. 14.
