Senior judge Thomas W. Webber Sr., will serve as judge pro tem in Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 3, replacing Judge Elizabeth Tavitas upon her appointment to the Indiana Court of Appeals, Chief Justice Loretta Rush wrote for the Indiana Supreme Court in a Tuesday order.

Webber’s term is effective August 6, the day Tavitas is expected to be sworn in on the appellate bench. Webber will remain as judge pro tem until further order of the court or until a successor is appointed.

Tavitas was appointed to the Lake Superior Court by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2006, where she remained until her appointment to the appellate court by Gov. Eric Holcomb in July. Tavitas will succeed Judge Michael Barnes, who retired and assumed senior judge status.

Webber, formerly a trial court judge in Porter County, will have authority to discharge all the duties of judge and will be compensated at the same rate as the regular judge.
