Lee Christie and I have been asked and are humbled to serve as the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s Capital Campaign Committee co-chairs in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation and the 140th Anniversary of the Indianapolis Bar Association.

In the last issue of the Indiana Lawyer, Rebecca Geyer described some of the challenges that the Indianapolis Bar Association is facing with our constantly evolving central Indiana practice of law. The current IndyBar/IBF offices no longer serve the new generation of lawyers and we will need to relocate to a dramatically new facility at the end of 2019.

The responsibility to reform our office space creates an incredible opportunity for all of us to demonstrate to our legal community, the citizens of Central Indiana and to those similarly situated communities in the United States how the IndyBar is on the cutting-edge by creating an office facility that will be welcoming to young lawyers, as well as experienced practitioners. These new offices will provide opportunities for seasoned attorneys to mentor young lawyers in a space conducive to interaction, allow sole practitioners to learn skills from more experienced colleagues and give attorneys an alternate location to meet with clients. These factors possibly eliminate or reduce the amount of office space needed for sole practitioners—a real savings to their bottom line.

The IndyBar needs all of you to help us meet these lofty goals. Members of the Capital Campaign Committee (see list of committee members at right) may call you to request that you make a meaningful contribution toward our campaign. Your donation will help us achieve our goal of supporting our legal community while providing new opportunities for collaboration and mentorship. There will be naming rights for different levels of giving as well as walls of honor where individuals, firms and companies who have made significant contributions will be forever remembered in our legal community.

Many of us have been blessed with successful careers due to our own efforts and the support of others. We are hopeful that when a committee member contacts you, you will take the time to meet with him or her, understand and appreciate our goals and expectations and make a significant commitment to the Capital Campaign. Any pledge in excess of $1,000 can be payable over a period of three years. With the generosity of each of you, we are confident that we can plan for and acquire new offices to support and grow our membership as attorneys face challenges of practicing law in the 21st century.

Please do not hesitate to contact me, Lee, or a committee member to make a contribution or ask any questions regarding this campaign. We thank you in advance for your support! For more information on the Funding the Future Capital Campaign, please visit indybar.org/future.
