By Phyllis S. Armstrong, Child Advocates, Inc.

The IndyBar ADR Section Executive Committee is pleased to announce that we will host our Fall Mediation Day on October 5, 2018, at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Through Mediation Day, we provide a service to our courts and community by volunteering our time to mediate several screened cases for litigants who qualify for modest means mediation. Barnes & Thornburg LLP has once again generously volunteered to provide ample conference facilities for this joint endeavor.

To make this event a success, we are looking for 10 volunteers who are registered domestic mediators and have experience mediating paternity cases. Magistrate Marie Kern in Paternity Court is screening non-domestic violence cases for us and expects to have 10 cases to mediate on October 5. Each volunteer mediator will agree to mediate one case, starting at either 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. Volunteers should bring a laptop to assist with drafting agreements. There will also be a judicial officer on site to approve mediated agreements.

We hope you will set aside October 5 to volunteer for this fun and exciting program! If you wish to volunteer, please email Phyllis Armstrong at [email protected] with a desired start time (9 a.m. or 1 p.m.). Once we have enough mediators, we will follow up with you directly with more details.•
