Jury selection was set to begin Monday in 21-year-old Anthony C. Hoskins’ murder trial in Princeton. He allegedly fatally shot 48-year-old Steven Hess in February just outside the motel’s entrance after an argument in the Oakland City motel’s lobby.
A Gibson County judge has set aside three days for Hoskins’ trial.
The Princeton Daily Clarion reported Hoskins’ plans to argue that the Oakland City man shot Hess in self-defense.
Court documents say Hoskins told officers Hess had a baseball bat and threatened to beat him for the way he’d spoken to Hess’ wife.
Surveillance video captured the killing outside the Diplomat Motel in the city about 25 miles north of Evansville.
