Interviews set for Lake, Allen circuit judge hopefuls

Candidates hoping to be appointed to fill vacancies on the trial court bench in Allen and Lake counties will be interviewed in the next two weeks, according to schedules released Wednesday.

Interviews with applicants seeking to fill the Lake Superior Court vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Elizabeth Tavitas to the Indiana Court of Appeals will begin Tuesday morning. After an organizational meeting of the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission at 8:30 a.m. (CDT), the interview schedule is as follows:

8:50-9:10 a.m.: Magistrate Kathleen M. Belzeski

9:15-9:35 a.m. : Magistrate Lisa A. Berdine

9:40-10 a.m.: Daniel Wayne Burke Jr.

10:05-10:25 a.m.: Magistrate Katherine J. Garza

10:30-10:40 a.m.: Break

10:40-11 a.m.: Magistrate Thomas P. Hallett

11:05-11:25 a.m.: Robert J. Harkins

11:30-11:50 a.m.: Kristen D. Hill

11:55 a.m.-12:35 p.m.: Lunch

12:35-12:55 p.m.: Judge Gina L. Jones, Merrillville Town Court

1-1:20 p.m.: Judge Amy Louise Jorgensen, Hammond City Court

1:25-1:45 p.m.: Joshua Steven Malher

1:50-2:10 p.m.: Frank Richard Piper Martinez, III

2:15-2:25 p.m.: Break

2:25-2:45 p.m.: Magistrate Nanette K. Raduenz

2:50-3:10 p.m.: Stacy J. Vasilak

3:15-TBD: Commission deliberations

The interviews are open to the public and will take place in in the hearing room of the Lake County Board of Commissioners, Third Floor of Building A, Lake County Government Center, 2293 N. Main St., Crown Point.

In Allen County, interviews will take place beginning at 9 a.m. (EDT) Oct. 1 in Courtroom 110 of the Allen County Courthouse, 715 South Calhoun St., Fort Wayne. The Allen Superior Court Judicial Nominating Commission will interview five applicants seeking to succeed Judge Stanley A. Levine, who will retire in December. The interviews are open to the public and are scheduled as follows:

9-9:30 a.m.: Carol Helton

9:40-10:10 a.m.: Andrew Palmison

10:10-10:30 a.m.: Break

10:30-11 a.m.: Magistrate Jennifer DeGroote

11:10-11:40 a.m.: George Sistevaris

11:50 a.m.-12:20 p.m.: Andrew Williams

12:20 p.m. – TBD: Lunch/Executive Session/Announcement

Each of the commissions will nominate three finalists for Gov. Eric Holcomb’s appointment. The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission has yet to determine if a second round of interviews will be needed to select finalists from the 13 applicants.
