The two nominees for the Northern Indiana District Court are among 51 judicial candidates the White House has renominated for the federal bench.

Tuesday, President Donald Trump returned to the U.S. Senate the district and federal judicial nominees who had previously been put forward but were not confirmed before the 115th Congress ended. Among the those renominated are Holly Brady and Damon Leichty, who were both submitted by the Trump Administration in 2018.

As expected, both are now having their nominations renewed for consideration. According to procedure, Brady and Leichty will have to be receive a thumbs-up from the Senate Committee on the Judiciary before they move to the U.S. Senate for a floor vote.

Once they get to the Senate floor, their path to the bench may get easier. Although Republicans now have a 53-seat majority in the upper chamber, Democrats can still delay the confirmations by using up to 30 hours to debate each judiciary nominee. However, Politico reported Sen. Todd Young, R-Ind., has said Republicans are now considering changing the rules to restrict the amount of time district judge nominees may be debated.

Brady, a partner at Haller & Colvin P.C. in Fort Wayne, has been nominated to replace Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen, who took senior status in September 2017. Leichty, a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP in South Bend, has been nominated to replace Judge Robert Miller, Jr., who transitioned to senior status in January 2016.
