A retired Porter County judge will begin serving as a judge pro tempore in the Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 4 after the sitting judge transfers next week.

Current Lake Superior Judge Bruce D. Parent will transfer to Lake Superior Civil Division 7 effective Feb. 4, replacing replace retiring Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider. In his place, an Indiana Supreme Court order announced the appointment of Judge Thomas W. Webber Sr. as judge pro tempore, effective Feb. 4.

Webber will continue to serve until further order of the court or until a successor is appointed, whichever is first. He will be compensated at the same rate as the regular judge. Ten candidates to fill the vacancy created by Schneider’s retirement were to be interviewed Thursday, but the interviews were postponed due to dangerously cold weather.
