A central Indiana judge has sentenced an Elwood man to 70 years in prison for child molestation convictions.

The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin reported Madison Circuit Judge Mark Dudley told Chad P. Hobbs on Friday that he was giving the 45-year-old man “an effective life sentence.” The judge said Hobbs committed an act “that is almost unimaginable for most of us.” The judge said Hobbs’ lack of empathy “leaves little room for any mercy.”

Hobbs was convicted of felony child molestation counts in February. Prosecutors say he molested a 5-year-old and 7-year-old between July 2014 and December 2015. Hobbs addressed the court before his sentencing and said he maintained his innocence. He said he plans to appeal.
