On July 1 in Tippecanoe Superior Court, Mindi Metzinger was charged with three counts of obstruction of justice and one count of assisting a criminal, WXIN-TV Channel 59 and other media outlets reported.
She was released on a cash bond on Monday.
An investigation into Metzinger’s connection with the crime was launched on May 28 after Thomas Moss, the man accused of spearheading the plot to kill Meyer, called Metzinger using a desk phone near the booking area at the Tippecanoe County Jail. Moss was only allowed to use that phone to contact his attorney, Fox59 reported.
Moss and Metzinger allegedly participated in several phone calls in April and May 2026. During one of the calls, Metzinger encouraged Moss to “blame everything on Ferguson because you can’t have two criminals that commit the same crime,” according to Fox59.
Metzinger was referring to Raylen Ferguson, the defendant who’s been charged with shooting Judge Meyer directly.
The two also discussed Moss sending letters with instructions on what to say in court to Ferguson, Nevaeh Bell and Blake Smith, who are all charged in connection with the crime. The letters were disguised as legal mail and sent by a fake attorney and law firm, according to court documents.
Metzinger is the seventh person arrested in connection with the shooting of Meyer and his wife at their Lafayette home on Jan. 18. Charges against defendant Zenada Greer were dismissed in March.
Moss was a high-ranking gang member who was set to stand trial in front of Judge Meyer a few days after the shooting was carried out. He is set to go to trial in September for his involvement in the shooting.
Ferguson will go to trial in late August. Smith is set to go to trial the same day as Moss. Bell will go to trial in November. Defendant Amanda Milsap was sentenced in April to five years in prison and one year of probation.
Metzinger has an initial hearing on July 13.
Her case is State of Indiana v. Mindi Charlene Metzinger, 79D05-2607-F5-000091.
