Judge Cristal Brisco

The St. Joseph County Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications to fill a vacancy created by Judge Cristal C. Brisco’s recent confirmation as a federal judge.

Brisco was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in January to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana’s bench.

According to the Indiana Supreme Court, applications to fill Brisco’s position on the St. Joseph Superior Court are due by March 4 at 12 p.m. Applications must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal.

In order to be eligible for the position, applicants must reside in St. Joseph County, be a U.S. citizen and admitted to the bar of Indiana.

The commission is required to submit the top five qualified candidates to Gov. Eric Holcomb. The names of candidates applying for the office are confidential, according to statute.

The list of the five nominees selected by the commission is expected to be publicly announced sometime in March or April following confidential interviews.
