The St. Joseph County Judicial Nominating Commission has selected five nominees to fill a judicial vacancy, the Indiana Supreme Court announced.

The nominees are: Christopher Fronk, St. Joseph Superior Court Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Hardtke, Kristen Kocsis, John Maciejczyk and St. Joseph Superior Court Magistrate Judge Matthew Raper.

The nominees will be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb for consideration, and he will make the final selection.

Under state law, the commission must submit to the governor a list of up to five nominees with written evaluations of each candidate.

Holcomb then has 60 days in which to make an appointment to the St. Joseph Superior Court.

The vacancy on the St. Joseph Superior Court became available on Jan. 26 when Judge Cristal Brisco was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. The U.S. Senate confirmed Brisco on a 67-32 vote.
