“Sometimes changes happens quickly. Other times it happens slowly. But often, both are true — if you need proof, just look at The Indiana Lawyer.”

Those were the words I wrote on June 9, 2021, the first time I penned a column as editor of this paper.

Now, on Feb. 14, 2024, I am penning my final column in that role.

Yes, it’s true; at the end of the day on Feb. 27, I will sign off as editor of Indiana Lawyer. Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong — I’m getting married and moving out of state, which means I have to say goodbye to the newspaper that I’ve dedicated my professional life to for the last seven-plus years.

Seven years. I understand that’s not much time in the grand scheme of things, but in the context of my 9-year-old post-graduation career, seven years is close to a lifetime.

A quick recap, if you’re interested: I joined Indiana Lawyer in September 2016 as a reporter, worked my way into roles as digital editor and managing editor, then landed in the editor’s desk in June 2021. And truly, as cliché as it sounds, that was a professional dream come true for a young journalist.

So of course, saying goodbye certainly won’t be easy. But my career so far has been marked by the need to navigate various professional changes, and this will be in keeping with that tradition.

But one thing that will never change is the dedication of the Indiana Lawyer staff. You already know Daniel Carson and Alexa Shrake, and by the time March rolls around, the IL team will have a new reporter to introduce you to (I’ll let them make that introduction).

As for a new editor, we don’t have anything to announce just yet, but rest assured that the quality and content you’ve come to expect from Indiana Lawyer will not change. The paper will still appear in your mailboxes, Indiana Lawyer Daily will still land in your inboxes, the Indiana Lawyer Podcast will still play in your headphones — you get the idea.

This change, like most, is bittersweet, but I’m looking forward to what’s next, and I remain confident that Indiana Lawyer will remain your go-to source for Indiana legal news.

So for the last time from me, thanks for being such loyal readers. I’ll see you around.•
