A Delaware County man faces 55 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to several drug dealing and unlawful firearm possession charges.

Delaware Circuit Court Judge Andrew Ramirez sentenced Jeffery Allen, 48, after he pleaded guilty to dealing in a narcotic drug, dealing in cocaine and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felony.

According to a news release, Allen also admitted he is an habitual offender in that he has accumulated at least two prior unrelated felony convictions: those being carrying a handgun without a license and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Hoffman said he was pleased with Allen’s sentence, describing him as a career criminal with at least four separate convictions for illegally possessing or using a firearm.

“He is a habitual offender in every sense of the word. Our criminal justice system has a very serious problem with the ‘revolving door’ to the jailhouse,” Hoffman said in a released statement. “This occurs when a person commits a crime, is arrested and jailed, is released on bail only to commit another crime, get arrested and again bail out of jail. It is an endless cycle of criminal activity. The criminal justice system must stop this revolving door.”
