The former treasurer for the Aurora Farmers Fair in southeastern Indiana was arrested and charged with felony theft after being accused of using fair funds to make more than $70,000 in personal purchases.
The Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office charged 54-year-old Scott A. Petty of Moores Hill with one count of theft, a Level 5 Felony.
Petty is accused of using the farmers fair credit card and bank account to pay for more than $70,000 in personal expenses, including car payments, other bills, vacations and more.
The investigation, led by Indiana State Police, began in March when the fair board reported money was missing from the Aurora Farmers Fair Bank Accounts.
Petty turned himself in on Monday. His initial hearing was on Tuesday. A jury trial is set for June 24.
The Aurora Farmers Fair is held every October and is one of Indiana’s oldest festivals. It features a parade, carnival rides, entertainment, an exhibit hall and more.
Aurora is a community of about 3,750 people, 30 miles west of Cincinnati.
