Martrell Weaver, 24, pleaded guilty to murder Thursday in a plea agreement that calls for him to serve 50 years in prison for the June 2020 killing of Amanda Hoglund, 22.
Weaver’s plea agreement came days before his trial was set to start this week, The Journal Gazette reported.
An Allen County judge set his sentencing for Sept. 10.
Witnesses told police Weaver and Hoglund were arguing when Weaver shot her once in a driveway and then stood over her, shot her several more times and then sped off in his vehicle.
Weaver eluded police until July 2020, when he was found in a wooded area in Mansfield, Ohio.
Weaver’s attorney, Gregory Fumarolo, said his client killed Hoglund while he was on probation, and he has other charges that will be considered when he’s sentenced.
Hoglund’s mother, Teresa Malott, attended Thursday’s hearing and said she was satisfied with the plea deal.
