Clyde & Co announced the expansion on March 17, marking the firm’s 21st office in North America. The firm also has a presence in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.
The office, which is now open, will be led by partner Renee Mortimer, who joins Clyde & Co from Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, where she served as managing partner of the firm’s Highland and Indianapolis offices.
Mortimer will be accompanied by one associate and will work alongside an existing Indiana-based team that includes senior counsel and three associates.
“Clyde & Co has a strong and growing reputation in the US insurance market and a clear commitment to investing in its trial and defense capability,” Mortimer said in a press release announcing the expansion. “I was drawn to the firm’s premium insurance focus, its collaborative, team-based approach, and the opportunity to continue growing my practice on a diverse and innovative global platform. I am excited to join Clyde & Co. and to help build the firm’s presence in Indiana and beyond.”
The northwest Indiana office will focus on the insurance sector with services in commercial disputes, dispute resolution and product liability and recall. Leaders said the new office will respond to the state’s expanding property and casualty insurance market and meet client demands for defense and trial services in jurisdictions that are challenging for insurers.
When asked why the team wanted to expand to Indiana, Mortimer said the location is ideal to build on the firm’s existing reach in the Midwest.
“Indiana is an important hub for many of our insurance clients, and the market here has become increasingly active,” Mortimer told The Indiana Lawyer in an email. “Expanding into the state just made sense. We want to be present and invest in the jurisdictions where our clients need us most. With our strong base in Chicago, and our colleagues in Indianapolis, this move allows us to extend our reach across the Midwest, which will be a real advantage for our clients, both locally and regionally.”
