The crowd of protesters was estimated at several hundred to as many as 1,000 people. The protest was organized by a group called Indy Liberation Center, which says it wants to end ICE raids and funding.
“Trump’s ICE is terrorizing our communities—and we won’t stay silent,” the group posted in a notice calling for the protest. “Join working people across Indianapolis for an emergency rally outside Gainbridge Fieldhouse ahead of the Pacers game to demand an immediate end to the illegal ICE raids targeting immigrant families and workers.”
The protesters marched on Pennsylvania Street and other downtown roads.
More protests over President Donald Trump’s policies are set for Saturday in Indianapolis, running from noon to 3 p.m. at the Indiana Statehouse.
The “day of defiance” is called “No Kings” and has more than a dozen events scheduled around the Hoosier state, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle.
Organizers said it expects the events to be peaceful.
