A federal judge sentenced an Illinois man to 33 years in prison following his conviction earlier this year for robbing a Burger King on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
U.S. District Court Judge James P. Hanlon also sentenced Cameron Love, 28, to 5 years of supervised release following incarceration. A federal jury had convicted Love in February.
On Jan. 16, 2025, Love entered a Burger King at 7620 N. Shadeland Ave. armed with a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. He brandished the gun at an employee working the front counter, threatening their life, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
“You b*****s better open these registers or I’ll kill you, I’ll shoot you in the face,” Love told employees before vaulting over the counter and stealing $459, the release states.
Love then fled in a Chevy Cruze that was driven by Michael Scott, who was sentenced last fall to four years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for his role as an accessory in Love’s crimes.
They led police on a short chase after evading a traffic stop. During the chase, Love allegedly threw the stolen cash and his gun out of the vehicle. He and Scott were eventually detained in Carmel, and police found the handgun in the snow four days later near a bike path along 106th Street.
Justice department officials said Love later threatened store employees who were asked to identify him while he was standing next to a police officer.
He was convicted of interference with commerce by robbery, brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in relation to the robbery, which took place on Jan. 16, 2025. That robbery happened three months after Love was released on parole after a 15-year sentence for aggravated robbery and a six-year sentence for armed robbery.
Love has several felony convictions, including the aggravated robbery of a gas station during which Love held a clerk at gunpoint and assaulted him, according to the justice department press release.
