IN law schools see bump in enrollment, median GPA

Indiana’s law schools saw a slight increase in enrollment to begin the 2023-24 school year, and the median grade point average also ticked up for 1L students.

Enrollment at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and Notre Dame Law School increased by 21 and 14 students, respectively. Enrollment at Indiana University Maurer School of Law stayed the same from the previous year at 155.

Meanwhile, the median GPA for new 1L students climbed across the board. IU Maurer’s went from 3.81 to 3.86; IU McKinney’s went from 3.58 to 3.61; and Notre Dame’s went from 3.81 to 3.83.

Notre Dame had the highest share of both women and minority students at 61% and 35%, respectively.

The preliminary profile of the new 1L classes at each of Indiana’s law schools is as follows:

IU Maurer
Number of enrolled 1L students: 155

Median LSAT: 164

Median GPA: 3.86

Percentage of women: 54%

Percentage of minorities: 34%

IU McKinney
Number of enrolled 1L students: 250

Median LSAT: 155

Median GPA: 3.61

Percentage of women: 55.6%

Percentage of minorities: 20%

Notre Dame Law School
Number of enrolled 1L students: 180

Median LSAT: 169

Median GPA: 3.83

Percentage of women: 61%

Percentage of minorities: 35%
