The Indiana Bar Foundation has awarded more than $5.2 million to 13 civil legal organizations and four law students as part of its annual grant cycle, the organization announced July 16.
The organizations that received the funding provide civil legal assistance to low-income residents in communities across the state.
“I’m proud to support organizations that are making a real difference in communities across Indiana while also investing in the education of future legal leaders,” Charles Dunlap, president & CEO of the Indiana Bar Foundation, said in a press release. “Providing civil legal assistance to Hoosiers and supporting the next generation of attorneys remain central to the Foundation’s mission.”
The following organizations received funding:
- Ability Allies
- Center for Victim and Human Rights
- Child Advocates
- Indiana Legal Services
- Indianapolis Legal Aid Society
- Kids’ Voice of Indiana
- Legal Aid Corp. of Tippecanoe County
- Legal Aid Society of Evansville
- Metro Community Outreach
- Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic
- Pro Bono Indiana
- Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana
- Whitewater Valley Pro Bono
In addition to celebrating civil legal organizations, the bar foundation awarded scholarships to four students from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Student Griffin Grannan was given the Phelps & Fara Scholarship, which assists a law student at McKinney who has an interest in family law.
The Hon. Cale J. Holder Scholarship was given to Richard Brown, Abigail Weick and Dionna Weatherly. The Holder scholarship supports McKinney students who show dedication to the administration of law and are working toward becoming a trial lawyer.
