The Indiana Bar Foundation will host its annual Indiana Civil Legal Assistance Conference next month, offering an opportunity to connect with legal aid leaders from across the state.

Attorneys who attend can earn five hours of general Continuing Legal Education credit and up to five hours of ethics CLE credit. The event, the largest civil legal assistance conference in Indiana, will be held Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ivy Tech Conference Center in Indianapolis.

“For over a decade, the Indiana Bar Foundation and Indiana Coalition for Court Access have provided opportunities for advocates, partners, and problem-solvers to gather, share ideas, network, and collaborate to improve access to legal services for Hoosiers,” Rachon Lucio, marketing and communications manager for the Indiana Bar Foundation, said in an email.

Lucio added that the conference is “a commitment to strengthening the work being done every day to support residents and communities by addressing legal issues of those most in need.”

Attendees can choose from more than 20 sessions at this year’s conference, including how to use artificial intelligence to improve workflow, understanding civil legal aid in rural communities and meeting the legal needs of immigrants.

Jon Laramore, CEO of Indiana Legal Services, will lead the final session of the event, reflecting on his career as he prepares to retire. During his session, Laramore will provide insight on what worked and what didn’t, both as an attorney and as an organizational leader. He’ll also discuss the importance of advocacy in the legal field.

New to this year’s event is the civil legal aid fair. That will be held during lunch and will give attendees the chance to meet with civil legal aid organizations and learn more about their missions and work.

Registration for the event ends Oct. 9. Tickets are $80 for general attendees, $60 for pro bono volunteers and board members of civil legal aid organizations and $40 for civil legal aid staff, pro bono staff and law students.
