A Postal Service employee convicted of plotting an armed robbery at a Gary post office has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison.
Tanisha Banks of Merrillville appeared in federal court Tuesday, one of three people convicted in the 2017 robbery. The government says the 39-year-old Banks provided logistics for the robbery while her boyfriend arranged transportation for the gunman.
Banks’ attorney, R. Brian Woodward, argued for a five-year sentence. He noted the magazine and bullets were removed from the gun before the robbery, guaranteeing that no one would be hurt.
Two post office employees were forced into a bathroom while the gunman grabbed $5,600.
