The commission ordered a public reprimand and fee against Robbin Stewart, who hasn’t practiced law since 2005 but often represents himself in matters brought against him by the Health and Hospital Corp. of Marion County.
Stewart did not respond to The Indiana Lawyer’s request for comment.
While representing himself in an ordinance violation brought by the HHC in November 2023, Stewart allegedly sent the HHC attorney an “aggressive and profane email” that was reasonably perceived as threatening, according to the commission. That ordinance violation stated that Stewart failed to maintain basic occupancy standards for a property he owned in Marion County.
The next hearing scheduled in the case was changed from in-person to remote because of safety concerns.
Stewart later apologized to the attorney for the matter. The commission determined Stewart’s email was an isolated incident, and no other professionalism or conduct concerns have been brought forward either before or after this case.
In addition to the public reprimand, Stewart must pay $250 to the clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court.
The case is In the Matter of Robbin Stewart, 25S-DI-159.
