Rachel VanTyle, Exodus Refugee’s director of legal services, said in a news release the money, fueled by donations from the local legal community, will help humanitarian efforts toward immigrants coming to the state during a tumultuous time in immigration law across the nation.
Exodus will use the funding to create a volunteer-based intake system and “will help Exodus develop an electronic form that will guide volunteers through necessary questions to determine if clients have a strong legal case, and whether Exodus can assist,” VanTyle said.
The intake system, accompanying form, and in-depth training videos will ensure that more immigrants have access to these legal services.
It will also give Central Indiana professionals more exposure to immigration law, VanTyle added.
IndyBar funds several programs across the city to support the community with law-related needs.
Each year, the bar foundation provides nearly $150,000 to programs.
