Judge Douglas B. Cummins assumed duties as judge of Johnson Superior Court 3 on Tuesday after the Indiana Supreme Court revoked the pro tempore appointment of Senior Judge Jeffrey C. Eggers.

The Supreme Court’s order removed Eggers on Monday, with Cummins filling the position on Tuesday.

Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Cummins as his pick on May 19. Cummins previously served as the magistrate judge in the Johnson County Superior Courts since 2015.

Cummins fills the vacancy left by Judge Lance Hamner, who resigned in February to run for Johnson County prosecutor. Hamner previously served as the prosecutor in Johnson County from 1991 to 2008 before becoming judge.

Cummins is an Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law grad. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland College Park.

A swearing in for Cummins will take place at a later date.
