In a written statement released Wednesday, Tippecanoe Superior Court Judge Steven Meyer thanked the community, court colleagues, law enforcement, and his medical team, saying he is “receiving excellent care” and is improving. He said his wife, Kim Meyer, who was also injured in the shooting, is healing as well and is grateful for the support they have received.
“I want the community to know that I have strong faith in our judicial system,” Meyer said. “This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peacefully resolving disputes. I remain confident we have the best judicial system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it.”
According to Lafayette police, Judge Meyer and his wife were shot at their home just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said Judge Meyer suffered injuries to his arm and his wife was injured in the hip.
The publication Based in Lafayette reported that Judge Meyer was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis. Kim Meyer told the outlet that his arm was badly injured and that he will likely require additional surgeries and rehabilitation. She was released from the hospital Sunday, the publication reported.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been announced. Lafayette police have said the investigation is ongoing and involves multiple agencies, including the FBI.
