Two magistrate judges and a town court judge have been selected as finalists to fill a judicial vacancy in Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 6.

The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission announced Wednesday its selection of Merrillville Town Court Judge Gina L. Jones and magistrate judges Lisa A. Berdine and Michael N. Pagano as potential successors to Judge John R. Pera. The commission interviewed 15 candidates at the Lake County Government Center on Wednesday before selecting the finalists after deliberation of the candidates.

Names of the three finalists will now be submitted by the commission to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will make the final appointment to Pera’s seat. The judge’s bench was vacated last month after Pera announced his retirement from the post on July 1. Upon receiving the list of nominees, the governor has 60 days to make an appointment.
