Owner and Attorney at Law
Highsaw Jointer Law

LaToya Jointer recently fulfilled a long-held ambition by starting her own law firm. “In February of 2026 I took a major leap of faith to pursue that dream,” Jointer said. “I have an amazing team, and we work collaboratively to serve family law clients throughout Indiana.” Though she started her career as a criminal defense attorney, she now exclusively practices family law. She’s established a strong client base and a team that includes two other attorneys. Family law, she said, was her calling, because it “encompassed everything I was looking for, including a field of law that allowed me to connect with people one-on-one and help them navigate trying times. Seeing the difference I make in their lives makes me thankful for being placed in a position to do so.”

Givebacks: vice president of membership and secretary, Family Law Executive Committee, Indianapolis Bar Association

First job: Texas Roadhouse hostess

Self-reflection: “I realized that I am very much an empath,” she said. “I find that being an empath allows me to provide strong legal advice while acknowledging the emotional burden clients face during the course of litigation.”

Motivation: “I decided to enter the legal profession in hopes of making true differences in the lives of others during their time of need. I wanted to pursue a career in law so that I could use my position, knowledge and voice to make a positive impact for families.”

Mentors: Jimmie McMillian, who she said has helped to guide her since they first met when she was in law school. “It has been inspiring to see how dedicated he’s been to mentoring [and] aspiring young attorneys, and being a great colleague to members of the legal community,” she said.

Favorite de-stressors: Going for a walk in the morning or at the end of the workday. “I put in earbuds and listen to my favorite artists,” Jointer said.•
