Indiana Tax Court Judge Justin McAdam began work in his new position last week after having a private oath ceremony.

On Sept. 1, now-Senior Judge Martha Wentworth administered the oath to McAdam while his wife, Amy, held the Bible and his children gathered around her.

The private ceremony took place in the Court of Appeals of Indiana courtroom.

According to the Tax Court, the private oath allows McAdam to begin working as the Tax Court judge now as opposed to waiting until his robing ceremony in October.

McAdam was appointed to the bench by Gov. Eric Holcomb on July 11.

Previously, McAdam was the deputy director and chief legal counsel in the Indiana Office of Management and Budget.

He had served in that position since 2019. He is also a trustee of the Next Level Fund Investment Board and chairs the Indiana Board for Depositories.

McAdam also worked as an associate attorney at The Bopp Law Firm in Terre Haute from 2012 to 2015 before joining the Office of Management and Budget.

Outside the legal field, McAdam has served on the board of the Avon Education Fund.

McAdam received a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Indiana University in Bloomington, then went on to Harvard Law School, graduating with his J.D. in 2011.

Following law school, McAdam clerked for former Indiana Chief Justice Brent Dickson

A public robing ceremony for McAdam will be held on Oct. 18 in the Indiana Supreme Court courtroom.
