The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law is celebrating the artistic talents of its students, faculty, and alumni with its fourth annual Art Event.

Submissions were accepted from current McKinney students, faculty, staff and alumni, and will be displayed in the Ruth Lilly Law Library’s commons area Feb. 16-20.

As part of the Art Event, the library will also host several activities for students as a break from their studies, including a Lego-building activity and how-to events for knitting and embroidery. Students will also have the chance to create a group collage throughout the week.

“The library tries to be the welcoming environment for those kinds of activities, and this one just seemed a natural fit,” said Miriam Murphy, director of the library and senior lecturer at McKinney.

This is the first year the art event has been expanded to include alumni. Murphy said she hopes the event makes participants of all skill levels feel embraced by the law school community.

“We expanded it this year to make it more all encompassing and friendly, because the idea is to welcome everyone, not just those who have artistic endeavors ready to be measured and voted on,” she said.

The library hosts several activities and events for students throughout the school year, encouraging networking opportunities between peers and with legal professionals across the Indianapolis community, as well as events that give students a chance to speak one-on-one with attorneys.
