Last week, Southern District of Indiana Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson sentenced Jujuan Beecher, 25, to 18 years in prison and three years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to four counts of interference with commerce by robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
In June, Magnus-Stinson sentenced Emmanuel Collins, 27, to 18 years in prison and three years of supervised release after he pleaded guilty to similar charges.
The court sentenced another individual connected to the crimes, Tayveon Majors, 23, to five years and three months in federal prison in 2025.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, on July 4, 2024, Beecher, Collins and two unidentified individuals robbed a GoLo gas station on East Washington Street. During the robbery, Collins and another person used a firearm to threaten the clerk to give them money. Beecher was the lookout, guarding the gas station door.
The men fled on foot with about $350 in cash and a box of lottery tickets.
Less than a week later, Collins and Beecher, with two others, similarly robbed a Shell gas station on East New York Street, this time taking with them about $1,000 in cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes.
Then again on July 13, Collins and Beecher and another individual stole $2,134 in cash from a Phillips 66 gas station on Kentucky Avenue. This time, Majors was the getaway driver.
The men made their last robbery on July 18 at a Dollar Tree on Washington Street. Beecher and another individual entered the store, held the cashier at gunpoint and demanded money, even as multiple customers were present, according to the Attorney’s Office.
The men stole a register drawer holding about $230 in cash and fled in a vehicle driven by Majors.
Law enforcement officers arrested Beecher, Collins and Majors later that evening as they were in the getaway car.
When searching the car, officers found three handguns connected to the robberies.
“No one who is shopping for their family or simply working for a living should face the threat of armed robbery. In addition to the physical and emotional toll on the victims, these types of robberies also have broad repercussions for entire communities, forcing them to live in fear,” said Tom Wheeler, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, in a press release Wednesday. “Through Operation Take Back America, our office will continue holding violent individuals accountable and making our neighborhoods safe.”
Operation Take Back America is a nationwide initiative that the U.S. Department of Justice started last year to ramp up enforcement of immigration laws, pursuing the elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations and taking a more hardline approach in charging violent criminals.
