Back in July, a jury found Di Morriea Turner, 25, guilty of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon.
Delaware Circuit Court Judge John Feick sentenced Turner Thursday.
In June 2019, then-19-year-old Turner allegedly tried to throw his girlfriend in front of a moving train on West 23rd Street in Muncie, according to reporting by Fox 59.
Court documents stated that Turner told police he and his girlfriend were arguing in the vicinity of the train and that he grabbed her because he didn’t want her to be on the other side of it.
Employees on the train, however, said it appeared that Turner had his girlfriend in a bear hug when the train was close before hurling her into the path of the it, Fox 59 reported.
As part of his sentence, Turner must be required to register for life as a violent offender.
Turner has a history of domestic violence, including against the same victim in this case, according to court documents. Two of his cases connected to that victim are still pending.
“I am proud of Chief Deputy Zach Craig and Deputy Prosecutor Adrian Perez for their hard work and dedication in this case,” said Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Hoffman in a news release. “The public must be protected from violent offenders like this.”
